Suede is the softer, more delicate cousin of leather

If you're looking for a softer, more luxurious material, suede is the way to go. Suede is a type of leather made from the underside of animal skin that has a soft surface and a napped finish. The word "suede" comes from the French word for "to smooth", which refers to the fact that suede feels softer than other kinds of leather.

Suede is a much softer material than leather and is therefore not as durable. Since it is thin, it's not as durable as other types of leather. It's not a total weakling, of course; it just isn't as tough. Also, the nap can end up trapping dirt, oil, and moisture, which makes suede more prone to staining and damage. Proper care can help prevent this but it's worth being aware of.

Suede does not do well with water--it can be treated to be more water-resistant, but you shouldn't go jumping in any puddles wearing it.
