Made to last. Here’s how.

Every pair of Mono shoes is designed in Oslo and handcrafted in Portugal, made for Nordic seasons. With a little care, they’ll keep their shape, comfort and character for years. Below you’ll find care tips for the materials we use.

The golden rule: Always let your shoes dry naturally at room temperature. Radiators, heating cables and direct heat dry out suede, leather, lining and soles – and the damage can’t be undone.

Care essentials

Footwear Care Kit

Everything you need to protect and refresh your Mono shoes: our Footwear Protector and a gentle cleanser. Use the protector before first wear and after cleaning, and the cleanser for marks and everyday dirt.

Shop the Care Kit
Before First Wear

Protect your shoes before you wear them outside for the first time. Our Footwear Protector works on all our materials. It repels rain and dirt while keeping the material breathable, and it’s PFAS-free, biodegradable and OEKO-TEX certified.

  • Brush off any dust and make sure the shoes are clean and dry.
  • Spray evenly from about 20 cm, covering the whole upper.
  • Let the shoes dry at room temperature – ideally overnight.
  • Repeat every few weeks in wet or snowy seasons, and always after cleaning.
Suede & Nubuck

Most Mono styles – like Hiking, Core and Core Cap – are made in suede. It’s soft, natural and develops character over time, but it needs a gentle touch.

  • Brush with a suede brush when the shoes are dry, always in the same direction.
  • Use the cleanser from the Care Kit for stains and deeper marks.
  • Never rub hard with a wet cloth – it can flatten and darken the surface.
  • Re-apply the protector after cleaning.
Braided Leather

The handwoven leather on our Braided styles is a signature detail – and dirt likes to settle between the strands.

  • Use a soft brush to lift dirt out of the braid.
  • Wipe gently with a slightly damp cloth, then let dry naturally.
  • Don’t soak the braid or scrub against it, as this can loosen the weave.
Wool

Styles like the Tag Boot combine wool with leather for warmth and texture.

  • Remove lint and dust with a soft brush or a lint roller.
  • Spot-clean marks with a damp cloth – never put the shoes in the washing machine.
  • Let the wool air out between wears.
Shearling & Wool Lining

Our lined styles, like Vidda, keep your feet warm through the winter. The lining may feel snug at first, but it settles and shapes to your foot with wear.

  • Let the lining air out after every wear.
  • Never dry it near radiators or heating cables.
  • Brush the lining gently if it becomes flat or compressed.
  • Wear thin socks the first few times if the fit feels tight.
Rubber Soles & Toe Caps

The rubber soles on our boots – and the rubber that wraps over the sole on our Cap styles – are made for city streets and mountain trails alike.

  • Remove dirt and gravel with a brush or damp cloth.
  • Wash off road salt as soon as possible – it can leave white marks on suede.
  • Don’t leave your shoes on heating cables for long periods; heat can affect the rubber and glue.
If Your Shoes Get Wet
  • Remove excess water with a dry cloth.
  • Stuff the shoes loosely with paper to absorb moisture and keep their shape. Replace the paper when it gets damp.
  • Let them dry slowly at room temperature – never on heating cables, radiators or near open heat.
  • Once dry, brush suede to lift the nap and re-apply the protector.
Storage

Store your shoes in a dry, ventilated place away from direct sunlight. Before storing them for the season, clean them, let them dry completely and keep them in their dust bag or shoe box. Paper or shoe trees help them keep their shape.

Laces
